5/9/2008 - Master Pilot Award and FAA Safety Seminar Coming to Wetumpka Airport
FAA announced that Mr. Peter A. Land will receive the Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" award, May 15, 2008. Join members from the local EAA Chapter 822, the United Flying Octogenarian Assn, and an active diverse group of pilots and owners based at the Wetumpka Airport in celebration. Including this upcoming honor, Wetumpka will be the home to seven honorees of the Master Pilot Award.

WASHINGTON DC- Reuters is reporting that funding for Northrop Grumman's contract to build America's next generation of aerial refueling tankers has cleared another procedural hurdle in Congress. WASHINGTON, DC, May 8, 2008 - Today, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) announced first quarter shipment and billings figures. Total industry billings were up 16.1 percent to $5.3 billion, an all-time high for the first quarter, while total shipments were down by 7.5 percent.

5/6/2008 - 100th Anniversary of the First Airline Passenger
It all began 100 years ago, on May 14, 1908, at the now Wright Brothers National Memorial location, when Charles Furnas, the Wright brothers' mechanic, became the world's first airplane passenger. Not only was he the first passenger ever carried on an airplane, he was also one of the very few people to fly with both Wilbur and Orville Wright.

5/5/2008 - Shelby Announces Nearly $2 Million for Alabama Airports
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded $1,994,458 to the State of Alabama for infrastructure improvements at six local airports. This funding will be distributed among the following six airports:   · Albertville Regional -Thomas J Brumlik Field to acquire land for aircraft approaches · Greensboro Municipal to acquire land for development · Centre-Piedmont-Cherokee County Regional to conduct a taxiway and to conduct a miscellaneous study · Greensboro Municipal to install fencing around its perimeter and remove obstructions · Bessemer for taxiway lighting rehabilitation · St Elmo to install fencing around its perimeter and remove obstructions "A strong transportation infrastructure is critical to attracting new businesses and industry to the state of Alabama," said Shelby.
