7/23/2008 - Aeroshell Aerobatic Team Leader Injured at Home

Birmingham AL- Just over 24 hours ago, a father playing with his children had an unbelievable accident. While showing them how to play with a chin-up bar, the mounting failed causing Alan Henley to crumple headlong to the floor. In the freak accident, he fractured his neck and received a cut to his head. Within minutes, he was rushed by ambulance to the hospital, his wife, Jennifer at his side.

The shock of his injury goes well beyond his family, to the millions of fans who have watched and love the award winning, four ship Aeroshell Aerobatic Team for over 20 years. Their team leader, Alan Henley lies in stable but serious condition in the intensive care unit tonight in Birmingham.

Alan grew up in Birmingham and was influenced by his father's love of flying. He and his brother Mark are widely known for their local participation in a variety of aviation activities.

To keep up with Alan's progress, the Aeroshell Team members and Jennifer Henley want you to know that you can go to: http://www.naat.net/ , the Team web site and a special blog by Jennifer at alanhenley . Both sites allow you to send messages and read the latest about Alan's progress. Please keep Alan, Jennifer, Skylar and Brandon Henley in your prayers.

Alan had planned to leave for the team's next performance at AirVenture on Sunday. Instead, he will be undergoing treatment for his injury and getting well. But, the show will go on with a three ship formation in honor of Alan lead by Mark Henley with Steve Gustafson and Gene McNeely. All Oshkosh appearances will go on as scheduled. -Betty Meyer
